After Sunday's Get It Off! Shootshop at BU's Center for Digital Imaging Arts in Waltham, my friend Lara of The Studio Nouveau (who totally hooked us up, btw, thanks again!) asked me to come speak to her class about one of the only two things I know well enough to teach (and no, the infield fly rule was not on the calendar today).

So I threw a little flash education at them, Get It Off! style.

That's all for now, back to planning more snowboard mayhem for this weekend. At last count we were heading up to Loon with two shooters, four cameras, ten strobes, eight pocketwizards, and a partridge in a pear tree. I may need a sherpa.

Get It Off! Shootshop Recap

After last month's Get It Off! workshop with James (and due to popular demand, hey, you gotta give the people what they want), we decided that we needed an immediate follow up Shootshop.

With special thanks to Lara for totally hooking us up with some sweet space, we invaded Studio G at BU's Center for Digital Imaging Arts in Waltham with 10 students, 3 fantastic models, and enough flashes to stun a small (large?) animal.

We kicked off the shoot with a little reverse engineering exercise (that's Stephanie, above, channeling Epinero), and from there jumped right into a foreground/background lighting exercise before wrapping up with an exercise in capturing movement.

Thank you everyone for a great workshop - James and I had a blast. I'm heading to Florida here in a few weeks for spring training, but we'll definitely be planning some Get It Off! mayhem in the fall. In the meantime, check out our Flickr group.

Get It Off! Recap

Well we did it. After a few months of work and some long nights spent creating some totally dorky self-portraits (for demo purposes of course), yesterday the Fed and I spent were joined by 12 amazing photographers for the first Get It Off! workshop.

Those of you who know me know that when I walk into a room, the first thing I'm usually thinking is, "Where would I put the lights?" Well Get It Off! evolved from there. Between my obsession and Fed's overall SB-junkie-ism we were able to cover a lot of information in one day.

First off, I'd be remiss not to thank those who made it possible, Michael Bossin, owner of the Gallery in the Square in Sharon center. In addition to hosting the workshop, Michael has been a tireless supporter of the local arts scene and his gallery was the first to display my prints, way back in 2006. I also have to thank Paul at LensProToGo, who sponsored the workshop and donoated a free lens rental to one lucky Get Offer (Meg Belanger - Meg you have to let us know what fun toy you decide on for your rental!)

At the end of the day though, it comes down to the participants. For 8-hours they listened to James and I ramble about off camera light, motivated light, Pocketwizards and color temperature. Toward the end of the day, we broke up into smaller groups and spent some time trying out some new tricks and techniques.
