My great uncle Walter turned 89 yesterday. We've shared birthday's for as long as I can remember (tonight he told me, "You've only got 61 more years until you catch me. For some reason I don't think I'm gaining on him.)
Walter and my great aunt Ruth, (hmmm, should that be Great Aunt? As in Awesome Aunt? Or just great aunt as in grandmother's sister...we'll go with both), along with my parents and I headed out for Italian tonight to celebrate. First though, I wanted to make a portrait.
I didn't want to take too long, so when we got to their condo, I quickly set up my homemade beauty dish and moved some things around to get a clean background. A few test shots later I was all set to go.
We did this pretty quickly - I shot 48 frames of Ruth & Walter in just under 10 minutes. The photo above was by far my favorite. My favorite part of the night though was definitely when, during dinner, I realized my dad was wearing my shirt, and the conversation went like this (verbatim).
Doug: Are you wearing my shirt?
Dad: Ummm. (laughs) Yeah, I think so.
Doug: Motherfucker! I've been looking for that shirt!
Dad: (Laughs) Well I washed it.
Doug: I'm going to wash your car tomorrow in that case!
Walter: (Deadpan) I've heard of girls sharing their clothes before...
Yup, that's my uncle Walter.
(And for the record, I'm not that big a jerk, "motherfucker" was more of an exclamation than an insult.)
